Stories are everywhere. Every movie tells a story, including a setting, characters, plot and theme. History is full of stories. So many stories exist, they are divided into categories: Short stories, classic stories, true stories, fiction stories; love stories; mysteries, science fiction, dramas, action, biographies, etc. So, here’s a question…
What is the greatest story ever told?
Without question, the greatest of all stories is the Christmas story. No other story comes close in its remarkable influence. A Baby born in a stable has produced more songs of praise, works of art and pieces of literature than all other stories combined. This simple plot of a Baby born in obscurity has produced more inspiration through sermons, lectures and speeches than all other religious leaders, philosophers and motivational lectures have produced collectively together. This story never gets old. It has been celebrated around the world annually for hundreds of years. Has any story even come close in its sway over people? I don’t think so!
So, why is this simple story so powerful?
The Christmas story is God’s story. It’s the story of God come to earth. What better way to show the Creator’s matchless power over the demons of hell and dictators of earth than to come as a helpless Child! The dangers of nature and the violence of men could not so much as wake the sleeping Baby Jesus. Born to impoverished parents on a journey to Bethlehem, in desperation found nothing more than a feeding trough inside a stable to place the Savior of the world. The one who wore Robes of Righteousness was then wrapped in a discarded utility rage.
The story of Christmas was God come to earth on the most holy of nights.
This Baby grew to be man, who at the age of 30 traveled no more than 100 miles from the place of His birth. For a mere three years, He turned the world upside down, and changed the course of human history. Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne and Napoleon all built empires by brute force but over time, their empires collapsed. But Jesus built His kingdom on love, and all these centuries later, millions still follow Him and would lay their lives down for Him.
The Christmas story changes the heart. God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son to give His life on the Cross and pay the debt for your sin. His message offers forgiveness and hope of a better future. At this very moment, you can embrace His message, ask for forgiveness and welcome Him into your life.
Christmas will never be the same. Why?
It’s more than just a story.
